The first question we get in sales calls is usually: what is the difference between Own and Lease? The second is: which fits us? This article answers both.
Both models deliver Company OS or Agentic Platform. The difference is who owns the infrastructure, who operates it, and how much customization is possible.
Own in brief
We build Company OS or Agentic Platform in the client's own environment. The client owns the infrastructure, signs DPAs directly with third parties, and controls data location, upgrades, and customization. Nordic AI acts as technical supplier and coordinator. When the project is done, the client has full ownership.
Lease in brief
Nordic AI owns and operates a platform tailored to a specific vertical. The first verticals are hospitality and marketing agencies, with planned launch in Q2 2026. Clients access it per seat per month. Operations, upgrades, and infrastructure are Nordic AI's responsibility. Customization happens within the vertical framework.
When Own fits
Own fits best when one or more of these is true: you have strict requirements on data ownership or sector regulation, you want full control over upgrade pace, the customization need lies outside a shared vertical, you have existing infrastructure and IT capacity to own the solution, or you are at a size where a one-time investment plus maintenance gives better TCO than a per-seat subscription.
When Lease fits
Lease fits best when: you want to start quickly without a large up-front investment, you are inside one of the verticals we have built for (or one launching soon), your customization needs are within the vertical's scope, you prefer that someone else handles operations and upgrades, or you don't have an internal IT team that can own the solution long-term.
Hybrid path
There are also scenarios where companies start with Lease to learn the platform, and later migrate to Own when internal maturity and volume justify it. This is a deliberate path we support. Data and configuration can be exported on transition.
Our recommendation
If you are unsure, start with an AI Audit. It costs little, delivers a concrete overview of which model fits you, and can be used regardless of whether you continue with Nordic AI or another vendor.
